Abstract
To extend the vase life of cut chrysanthemums (Dendranthema ¡¿ grandiflorum Kitamura), ¢¥Kyungsubang¢¥ and ¢¥Chunkwang¢¥ chrysanthemums were harvested and pulsed with 2 mM silver thiosulfate (STS) for 30 minutes or 0.2% Chrysal RVB for 16 hours and then held in various holding solutions. Vase life, flower diameter, fresh weight, and solution uptake were measured. 3% sucrose + 150 ppm hydroxyquinoline sulfate (HQS) + 50 ppm AgNO©ý significantly extended vase life 4 - 5 times as compared to control and improved quality of cut chrysanthemums significantly by increasing flower diameter and fresh weight. Carbonated water (20-30%) was a good preservative solution for cut chrysanthemums. The proper harvesting stage of cut chrysanthemum was the time when the flower diameter was 40 §®. Ethylene production by cut chrysanthemums was very low.
